EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT
BECOMING A WEB DEVELOPMENT EXPERT
A web development expert is what one would call an architect of the web. Web developers built the foundations of websites, blogs and other platforms hosting the information and contents users are searching for. Not only are they meticulous and creative, but they are also multilingual experts, able to understand and speak several programming languages, the most common ones being HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Python, and many more. Unlike what most people think, web development is a technical but also social field. Web development experts are often working in teams with designers, marketers, project managers and clients to develop the best possible products. But that is not all. Are you curious to know what else is to learn about web developers? Discover this new STEM job profile with Alan Baudoin, a senior web developer!
SKILLS
Find out about the key skills to become a Web Development Expert.
Research
Web development is one of the fastest-growing sectors. That is why, as a web developer, it is crucial to stay up-to-date and learn about new technologies that might help you solve specific problems presented to you.
Personal Responsibility
Web developers are often put under high pressure and tight deadlines. As professionals, they must be able to assess and meet deadlines and show everybody that they are responsible enough to either do everything in time or ask for help if they see things are not working out.
Team Spirit
Rarely do developers (aside from freelancers) work solo. They must adapt to work with other people, in a team that is often composed of UX/UI designer, other web developers, a project manager, a quality assurance engineer and other members. Being a web development expert requires active participation in the team effort.
Openness
Being part of a team often means that you will receive feedback. For web developers working in a team, it is very important to know how to respond to feedback from other developers and/or clients and to not take it personally but instead try to improve.
Coaching
Being a web development expert means being a senior in the company and in the field. As a member of a team, it is important to pass on knowledge and to guide new junior developers to support their professional development.
Analytical Reasoning
While programming is an obvious strong key skill needed to pursue a career in web development, analytical reasoning is also one of them. As a web developer, it is essential to analyse the needs of clients to fit their technical needs for a website and adapt to any changes they would like to see implemented
